ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- On Tuesday, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that $5 million in state funding is available for critical infrastructure upgrades at animal shelters and humane societies. Projects eligible for funding include renovating dog kennels, improving medical facilities, and building more efficient shelters to reduce overall operational costs. ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - There are more than 6 million Americans, age 65 or above, living with Alzheimer's disease and the majority of them are women. Not only are women more likely to develop Alzheimer's, they're also more likely to be the caregiver to someone with the disease which can take a toll on their health. The Alzheimer's Association says female caregivers may experience higher levels of depression and impaired health than men.One of the main reasons women are more likely to develop Alzheimer's is because of age an overall life expectancy. ST. LOUIS -- There is a large police presence at Ranken Technical College in the 4400 block of Finney in St. Louis. Officers were called to the campus for a report of shots fired.Police say that they are not classifying the incident as a shooting. Vail, Breckenridge, Loveland and Wolf Creek will open this weekend, bringing to eight the number of Colorado ski areas welcoming skiers and snowboarders. For Vail, it will mark the earliest opening since 1998.Colorado ski areas that previously opened include Arapahoe Basin, Keystone, Eldora and Winter Park. Four Southern California men have been convicted on a litany of federal charges related to the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.Menifee resident Erik Scott Warner, 48; Temecula resident Ronald Mele, 54; and Lake Elsinore residents Felipe Antonio Martinez, 50, and Derek Kinnison, 42, were found guilty Tuesday of felony counts of conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding and obstruction of an official proceeding, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a news release.All four also were convicted of misdemeanor counts of entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, as well as and disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds. Chino Police Department officers opened fire as a man drove a vehicle toward them early Wednesday morning, but it remains unknown if anyone was struck, as "at least two suspects are outstanding," police said.A few minutes after 4 a.m., officers found a truck hauling a reportedly stolen trailer at Ramona and Edison avenues, police said in a news release.That truck driver refused to stop, even driving "over the front of a Chino Police vehicle with an officer still inside," police said.Eventually, the truck was disabled and two people exited it. One of those people "entered an awaiting vehicle which then drove directly at Chino Police officers at a high rate of speed, narrowly missing one," the release said.That's when at least one officer opened fire, though it's unknown if anyone was hit, as two suspects remain on the loose.One person was taken into custody, and no officers were injured.Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. A 12-year-old Apple Valley girl died after she was struck by a van on Monday.Journee Buchanan-Williams was in a crosswalk on State Highway 18 at Apple Valley Road a few minutes after 11 p.m. Monday night when she was hit by a white Ford Transit driven by 58-year-old Darren Rottino, also of Apple Valley, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department said in a news release.Buchanan-Williams "suffered major injuries" and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where she "later succumbed to her injuries," officials said.Rottino was uninjured and remained at the scene to cooperate with the investigation.The investigation is ongoing.Anyone with information is asked to contact Deputy S.
