UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. - A jury convicted an East St. Louis man of 11 felonies in connection with a drug-linked shooting death in University City. Deoman Reeves, 31, was found guilty of fentanyl possession and distribution charges in the death of David Anderson in October 2019. St. Louis had only 2 officers for an entire district – Both called in sick According to a federal indictment, Reeves and others fired multiple shots at David Anderson on Oct. 21, 2019, in retaliation for a shooting in St. Louis County the day before. Anderson died in the shooting, which happened in the 1100 block of Kingsland Avenue. Federal authorities, however, say the investigation into Reeves began after a 2019 shooting. According to his indictment, prior to the deadly shooting, Reeves and others unknowingly sold fentanyl and firearms to people working as undercover ATF agents. Close Thanks for signing up! Denver needs to build more in core city to solve housing crunch

Published Mon, 03 Mar 2025 22:00:44 GMT

The Denver metro area has struggled with housing shortages for over a decade. Despite high demand, construction and development costs make it difficult to build enough housing, particularly in the city’s core.Experts discussed housing and other issues Denver faces during a Sept. 20 Commercial Real Estate Symposium and Forecast Panels hosted by the Denver Commercial Association of Realtors.“Denver is an exciting place. Many people want to be here,” said Marty Roth with CBRE.While metro area governments work to streamline their process and create more supply, barriers include expensive land, high interest rates, and labor and material costs.“We’re more than 100,000 houses short in the metro market,” said Mike Kboudi with Cushman & Wakefield. “To improve attainability and affordability, we need to create more supply, but it’s difficult to find places to build quickly.”Limited land in Denver pushes development out into the suburb...

AURORA — Tom Doherty knew what he was doing. There’s only one reason you leave a dynasty — to go and try to start your own.The longtime Cherry Creek defensive coordinator took over the Grandview job three years ago, and led the Wolves to the Class 5A semifinals and quarterfinals the past two seasons. And Doherty’s Wolves, the lone in-state team to beat the four-time defending champion Bruins in 2022, are looking like a title contender again this fall.As evidence of that potential, Grandview outlasted Eaglecrest 39-32 on Friday at Legacy Stadium in a thrilling see-saw game to open Centennial League play. Senior quarterback Liam Szarka, the exact mold of player that Doherty wants to build his program identity around, put the Wolves on his shoulders with five total touchdowns. So, let’s check in with Doherty — how’s he feeling about his decision to leave juggernaut Cherry Creek? Pretty, pretty good.“I like our trajectory,” Doherty sa...

De La Salle’s defense dominates as Spartans shut out McClymonds

Published Mon, 03 Mar 2025 22:00:44 GMT

It wasn’t easy. But De La Salle, playing on its home field in Concord, eventually put away Oakland powerhouse McClymonds 21-0 on Friday night to stretch its winning streak to four games.Dominic Kelley scored on two touchdown runs and Toa Faavae threw his first touchdown pass of the season – a 38-yarder over the middle to Robert Santiago – to account for the scoring. But the story of the night was defense.De La Salle’s was more dominant than Mack’s as Drew Cunningham and Co. had another impressive performance.Santiago’s interception with 2:51 left put the bow on the shutout.De La Salle (4-2) drove inside McClymonds’ 20-yard line four times in the first half but scored only once, on a 5-yard run by Kelley early in the third quarter.Sophomore quarterback Brayden Knight came off the bench to complete three passes on the scoring drive, including a huge pass to tight end DJ Asiasi that gave the Spartans a first-and-goal at the 6.Aside from that, De La Salle couldn’t convert against a defens...

SF Giants start post-Gabe Kapler era on familiar note in loss to Dodgers

Published Mon, 03 Mar 2025 22:00:44 GMT

SAN FRANCISCO — The post-Gabe Kapler era started the same way his tenure ended: in defeat. With interim skipper Kai Correa at the helm, the Giants’ bats were bleak as ever against Dodgers starter Lance Lynn, while Los Angeles’ powerful lineup lit up San Francisco rookie starter Keaton Winn for a trio of home runs (Will Smith, Freddie Freeman, J.D. Martinez).Final score: 6-2.1) No .500 finishIt was an inevitability that became a reality Friday night: the Giants will finish 2023 with a worse record than in 2022.That’s the kind of stagnation that can get a manager fired, and guess what — it did.The Giants needed to sweep the Dodgers this weekend to avoid securing a losing record, but the homer barrage against San Francisco’s rookie starter meant that dream died in the first game of the series. They have finished better than .500 only once — in their 107-win 2021 — in five seasons under Farhan Zaidi.Good news: They can’t finish any worse than Zaidi’s f...
